Disability Awareness Month Past Campaigns

Disability Pride Month is celebrated every July. To recognize the contributions, achievements, and experiences of disabled computing professionals, ACM would like to invite the global community in a conversation about accessibility and technology. ACM has curated a reading list with selected titles that explores how technology can better serve all users through an inclusive design. The reading list features book topics such as the history of disability and design to the barriers that are overlooked in user designs. Follow along to see which books have been chosen for our recommended reads.

July is Disability Pride Month and ACM is proud to recognize the contributions of disabled computing professionals. In 2025, ACM will highlight the significance of assistive technologies in cultivating inclusive environments. From screen readers to mobility aids, assistive technology plays a vital role in transforming workplaces, classrooms, and daily life for all. Disability Pride Month offers an opportunity to reflect on the assistive technologies that we use or supports us. Stay tuned as we share more throughout Disability Pride Month. 

The ever-changing landscape of technology, the computing industry, and resulting societal impacts carry great potential for persons with disabilities. On July 10, 2024, ACM DEI Council hosted the panel, "Accessibility in Computing: Trends, Challenges and Opportunities." Panelists explored a range of topics about the current trends in accessibility in computing and how the industry is incorporating inclusive designs to meet diverse needs. Panelists discussed the gaps in accessibility that technology companies and others should address creating a more inclusive digital space.
