ACM Chapter Spotlight

ACM would like to congratulate chapters for organizing the following successful events. If your chapter would like to be featured in the chapter spotlight, please email [email protected] with a description of your recent event.

Bogota ACM SIGGRAPH Chapter
(Bogota, Colombia)

Over the past 16 years, Bogota ACM SIGGRAPH has grown to become one of the largest Computer Graphics events in Latin America, hosting over 185 speakers from top companies and attracting more than 13,000 professionals and students every year. During the past 15 years, we have worked alongside the Colombian Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications as part of a larger event named Colombia 4.0, and this year, for the first time, this event went on tour to 11 different regions within the Colombian territory, to bring the experience to a wider and more diverse audience.

This year we worked to create one of our most special events yet. It started for us in Tunja (department of Boyacá), on Sept 18th and 19th, then Barranquilla (Atlántico) on October 14th and 15th, and at last, we closed in our traditional location at Bogotá, on November 4th and 5th. In total, Colombia 4.0 had more than 2,340,000 attendees, between the conferences on site in the different cities, and the live stream viewers around the globe.

Our speakers share their stories through various individual talks on the main stage, highlighting what drives them in their work, and showcasing current or upcoming projects. Over the years, we've also hosted key panels with our speakers on relevant and thought-provoking topics like diversity and the importance of representation in the animation industry. Last November, our panel was on Diverse Gazes in the Animation Industry, Into the Future.

The amazing guests who graced our stage in 2025 included speakers from Netflix, Blender Studios, NASA, and Industrial Light & Magic. Portfolio review sessions for aspiring artists, and the meet and greet event also took place during these days. You can check our lineup, profiles, and agenda in more detail on our website: https://bogota.siggraph.org/en/.

ACM Chapter Tech Summit: Breaking into AI Industry modeled after the national ACM Tech Talks, is an event to spark conversation and curiosity around a certain topic, this year choosing AI. It's an opportunity for students to gain insights from entrepreneurial and industry professionals about how rapidly changing technology like AI is being used everyday in the workplace. Further, it's a chance to learn and apply newfound skills. It featured:

  • Two Speaker Panels: One with AI company founders and another with industry professionals, to learn about their career journeys and lessons learned in this field.
  • 2 Hands-on workshops: One for vibe-coding and another to use our sponsored AI product daisy.so, led by the daisy founder.
  • Mini Hackathon: Teams of 4-5 students came together to build a creative tech solution in only 2 hours, building and testing new and practiced skills.
  • Networking & Food: Time to connect with company professionals over lunch and dinner.

With over 60 student attendees, this event became USD's very first Hackathon and USD ACM Chapter's first ever event of its kind.

We hope to make this an annual event for years to come, providing more experience and opportunities to CS students at USD.
