US Technology Policy Committee (USTPC)
The USTPC focuses on tech policy in the United States at the national, state, and local levels. Members help shape the Committee’s action agenda, author its official statements, briefs, recommendations, and other materials shared with policymakers and the public, and spot emerging issues on which the Committee might engage. As opportunities arise, Committee members may also meet with Members of Congress and their staffs, author articles and Op-Eds for promotion by and through ACM, and speak with journalists on- and off-the-record. We also look for “local experts” willing to meet or testify with their state/city governments.
Membership is open to any ACM member living in the United States, regardless of citizenship status. We're glad to have perspectives from across the globe.
Steps to Join:
1 - Email the ACM Public Policy Office:
- Name, Location, Member ID, Bio. Examples of speaking engagements, policy work, and research publications.
- Interest in being a “local expert.
2 - Contact the Chairs (emails in the sidebar) of the Subcommittee you are interested in. Current subcommittees are:
- Accessibility
- AI & Algorithms
- Digital Governance
- Legal
- Privacy
- Security
Committee members will be expected to contribute regularly to conversations and meet (virtually). Membership in USTPC carries the same benefits as the category of a member's underlying ACM membership. Student members are very welcome, but they are non-voting. To keep the committee at a reasonable size, we will periodically remove members who have not participated in their committees’ work, those with expired memberships, and individuals who violate ACM’s code of conduct.
