July 7, 2026
Dear members,
It has been yet another productive first half of 2026 for ACM India.
The year commenced with NariYukti, a girl-only hackathon hosted at Infosys, Hubballi campus. We congratulate the winners of the hackathon!
The month of February witnessed our flagship annual event hosted by IIT Hyderabad on 14 February 2026, along with the co-located events of ARCS 2026 and the ACM-W India Summit 2026 on 12 and 13 February 2026. Three stellar invited talks and a panel discussion at the Annual Event, attended by 850+ participants, and several keynotes at ARCS and the ACM-W India Summit made the three-day gathering memorable. The Annual Event also witnessed the august presence of the President of ACM, Turing Awardee Prof. Raj Reddy, and the SIG Governing Board Chair, along with leaders from the Indian academic and IT industry. The inaugural edition of the Outstanding Applied Innovation in Computing (OAIC) Award was also presented during the Annual Event, marking an important new recognition instituted by ACM India.
iSoft conference, ISEC was also held in the month of February 2026, hosted at IIS University, Jaipur.
Delegates from ACM and ACM India participated actively in various pre-Summit and Summit activities of the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
In March, ACM India announced the India Technology Policy Committee, an important new initiative to engage the computing community more actively on technology policy matters of national relevance.
SIGMOD/PODS 2026, the flagship ACM conferences in the area of Databases were hosted in Bangalore from 31 May to 4 June 2026. Asia CCS 2026 was also hosted in Bangalore from 1 to 5 June 2026. The two conferences being hosted in India is a matter of great pride to the Indian Computing Research Community and ACM India.
The ACM India Summer Schools 2026 are currently running, offering self-motivated students immersive, expert-led exposure to advanced areas such as Systems for ML, language technology, cryptography, competitive programming, hardware security, and Edge AI and Robotics across leading host institutions.
The end of June brings in a change in the ACM India Council. We wholeheartedly thank the retiring Council members Aritra Banik, Ranjita Bhagwan, Lipika Dey and Venkatesh Raman.
We wish the New Council the very best and look forward to continuing to work towards the cause of Computing Education and Research in India!
